While most of the material and courses available online tend to be high-level and focused on applications (for instance, it shows students how to connect components on a breadboard to create a circuit), the goal of this course is to explain the fundamental concepts of Electricity and Electronics.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

Resistors are fundamental components in electronics. No circuit can function without them. This course will teach you the main properties of resistors, how resistors operate and how to analyze simple electrical circuits with batteries and resistors. Different type of resistors are discussed and used in simple applications.

Through this course, you will learn Ohm’s law, Kirchhoff Voltage and Current laws as well as the Superposition principle and Thevenin equivalent circuits. These are core laws of electronics that I use everyday in my job as electrical engineer and their knowledge is key to be able to solve electrical circuits.

ANY PREREQUISITES?

The student is expected to be familiar with the concepts of electric current, voltage, power and some familiarity with the operation of batteries. The course: "Basic Electrical Quantities" is a good preparatory course for the topics explained in this course.


To get the best out of the lessons, students should be comfortable with some basic arithmetic as I will often write and solve equations, in particular when analyzing simple circuits. Understanding a bit of physics can help too, but it is not required.
